The Survey Results

On this page are the results of the first questionnaire we distributed (the first one was only distributed to the households neighbouring the field) in December 2006 (you can still download a copy here.)

All those surveyed had previously been sent a copy of the the Anson Trust's glossy brochure "Working for the community" and invited along to a public exhibition at the Sports and Social Club on 12th October.  Most were also invited to a meeting with the Trustees at the Sports and Social Club on 1st November too.  So everyone asked to respond to the questionnaire was clear about the Trusts proposals including how the new facilities building might look.

We asked if residents were in favour, undecided or against the Anson Trust's proposals for the Anson Field. Every member of each household was asked to give their opinion and in some cases there was a mixture of responses from the same household. Over 70% of the questionnaires we put through peoples doors were returned to us and the returns are summarised here:

Total head count voting 96
Those against The Trust's Proposals 74 (77%)
Those undecided 19 (20%)
Those in favour of the proposals 3 (3%)

We felt it was important to learn the views of all residents around the field, not just those of voting age. Of those who ticked the "under 18” box all but one were against the proposals and the other ticked undecided.

Space was also provided for comments. Almost all the residents who returned questionnaires took the opportunity to explain the option (or options) that they had ticked.  We have since collected these comments together (taking care to preserve the anonymity of the contributors) and provided both the Anson Trust and the Parish Council with them.

Based on these results, we urged the Parish Council to reject any proposal from the Trust involving a housing development on the Anson Field unless they have clear evidence that more than 50% of the residents of Marcham are in favour of the Trusts proposals and offered our assistance in mounting a village wide survey to establish what the residents really think.  We also asked if they could verify if the Trust's dire warning about how the field would be lost should the Trust have to be wound up really was true.  They considered these points when they met on 7th February.
