"Silly customer, you cannot hurt a typeface!" Well, while Apu Nahasapeemapetilon may have never uttered that phrase, he's starring in the latest Pirillo Dingbat creation (along with dozens of other Simpsons characters). I don't think my week is complete unless I take a trip to Springfield at least once; animated antics are always welcome on my television screen. Homer says "Doh!" Bart says "Whoa!" Marge says "No!" Lisa says "Oh!" Maggie just sucks... ya know, on her pacifier.

Joystick's Friend v1.00 [1.4M] W9x/NT US$15 Joystick's Friend will allow you to play non-joystick-enabled games with your joystick. It remaps keyboard controls to your game controller; quite a fantastic tweak that's been long overdue. "Classic" game players: rejoice!

CDR software and FAQ sites

A few of you made the suggestion that I should just stick with the software which came with the Hewlett-Packard 8200i. Of course, you know me -- I'm looking for the best. However, this time, I forgot to look before I leaped. My drive came bundled with Adaptec's Easy CD Creator, which is (for all practical purposes) an outstanding piece of software. It handles data and audio burning -- what else could a gnome want? Something with a little more power, of course... so without further ado, here's a handful of CD-R software packages available for you to use:

CDRWin
Nero
Adaptec Utils
MusicMatch
Audiograbber
WinOnCD 3.6
Fire Burner
DiscJuggler
HotBurn
DART Pro 98
abCD
HyCD
VOB Utils
GEAR for MS Windows
AudioCD MP3 Studio
NTI CD-Maker
Feurio
MP3 CD Maker

And, if you're looking for more information (and unofficial support), check out these sites. Here's where the Internet really shines -- there's so much information out there (I just can't get enough of it). Wait... I think my head's about to explode:

Feeling medieval today? Why not hitch a ride on your local dragon. We all know these mythical creatures are not easily found in the twentieth century, so you'll have to settle for a three-dimensional binary representation. In this DirectX game, you become a Dragon Knight, fighting enemies in 20 different levels. It makes for a great, cheap distraction, and the programming team plans on developing other (fantasy) games in the future. Remove that chain mail armor from your cubicle, and climb aboard this beast. I doth think you'll like it.

Research Shopper

Everybody suffers from writer's cramp; a blank, white page can be so daunting. It's easier to write when you understand and love a particular topic, but students don't always have that luxury. Sure, they may be free to write about something "historical," but finding a specific instance isn't always easy. This site contains "the Web's largest collection of topics, ideas, and assistance for school-related research projects." Their 'Writing Center' can also help hone your composition skills, so anyone can benefit by visiting.
