Windows and Microsoft Updates and Security Patches

Windows updates on Microsoft's site sometimes stall or go wrong. One really good source of help is the oddly-named "MrScary" page. The information is unusually organized the most generally-useful info is at the bottom of the page. The top of the "MrScary" page contains specific info on individual update items. If you have a problem installing one particular update, then you may well find the fix there. But if your Windows Update itself is broken, so that you can't install anything, scroll down to the bottom the page: There's a goldmine of information there.
Windows Update itself can be problematic, as can the updates it offers.  However Microsoft's own separate "Baseline Security Analyzer", still free, is at
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/tools/Tools/MBSAhome.asp or search Microsft Support for the phrase "baseline security".  This can help ensure that your system really has all the patches, updates, and bugfixes it needs as well as checking out network security
Microsoft UK sites --IT professionals --Developer resources
Windows Update Corporate site Windows 98 Corporate Site- unfortunately this site is now retired it only holds updates until around November 2001 - presumably thanks to the new Microsoft product licences?

Check out QCHAIN for Windows, Hotfixes (on NT and 2K) instead of using Windows Update all the time
